This letter was originally posted on the XXY+Pediatrics Support Mailing List, July 31, 1999. Margaret, It is my belief that children with a 48 variance have even a bigger degree of variation than do children with xxy. I say this because my son is xxyy. He is now 131/2 yrs old, and he does not appear to have many of the characteristic of Klinefelter. His male parts are not small. According to Dr. Rogol he has enough testo in his system to not warrant intervention at this time. His bone age is right on target for his age. He is at the 50% mark as far as his hieght. He is not on any medications, nor as he ever been. I'm telling you all this because the literature on 48ers is very negative, and I became very depressed after reading much of it. I suggest that you deal with your grandson on an individual basis and not pay to much attention to the literature. Just so you know my son is not Mosaic as far as I know. He was tested at 21/2, but I going to have him retested in a year when I go back to see Dr. Rogol.
