Klinefelter syndrome is the result of male hypogonadism. Hypo means under and gonad refers to the testes in males and the ovaries in
females. A testicle in a typical XXY is usually far too small and atrophied to produce sufficient amounts of testosterone. Therefore, male hypogonadism is the testes not producing sufficient amounts of testosterone, which leads to the development of any number of symptoms that collectively have come to be known as Klinefelter syndrome.
